How to Stream Every March Madness Game to Any Device
The NCAA March Madness Tournament kicks off tonight. You’ve got the perfect grid , your snacks, and you’re ready to root for your favorite team. Here’s how to see each of this year’s 67 games at home or on the road, on the big or small screen.
All ways to watch every game
The NCAA has partnered with Turner Sports and CBS Sports to make broadcasting this year’s tournament very easy. Every game, no matter where it is streamed, can be streamed in one place: NCAA March Madness Live . The free service is available on 12 platforms, including:
- Live at NCAA.com
- Live on BleacherReport.com
- Live at CBSSports.com
- NCAA March Madness Live App for Windows 10
- NCAA March Madness Live iOS App
- NCAA March Madness Live App for Apple TV (search for “NCAA March Madness Live” on the tvOS App Store)
- NCAA March Madness Live Android App
- NCAA March Madness Live Chromecast App
- NCAA March Madness Live App for Amazon Fire TV
- NCAA March Madness Live App for Roku
The Apple TV app (in the new fourth generation model) even lets you watch two games side-by-side. And all the available mobile apps support Airplay or can cast videos to Chromecast.
What can you transfer with a subscription cable
The NCAA broadcasts all 67 games of the March Madness tournament. The games will air on CBS , TruTV , TBS and TNT , but the March Madness Live app lets you stream them all in one place. However, these apps are “TV Everywhere” apps, which means you need a cable or satellite login to watch every game. In fact, if you have the login you use for HBO Go (or you can get it in some way), this will probably work here, since they are basically the same thing. Just enter your credentials and you have access to unlimited March Madness streaming.
What can you stream without a cable TV subscription
If you don’t have access to your cable or satellite TV credentials, things get a little more complicated. Luckily, you can still watch some of the big games for free. Every game that CBS streams is free to stream on the March Madness Live website, but you won’t be able to stream to Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or use Airplay and Chromecast without logging in.
However, you do have a 3-hour grace period to watch games that are streamed on TruTV, TBS, and TNT (which usually require a sign-in). This is enough time for about a half of the free games or, if you’re careful planning, the second half of the three games you really want to catch the end of. There is no counter to check your time usage, but you will get alerts on how much time you have left while you watch.
If you don’t have login access and have used up your free three hours, you can still receive free audio streams through the app. Westwood One streams all 67 games via March Madness Live, perfect for when you’re at work or stuck in your car.
It’s important to note that both the Final Four and the Championship game will be streaming on TBS (and chances are your free three hours won’t work for those games), so plan accordingly. Stop by your local sports bar, go to a friend’s house with a cable, or cash it from a friend and “borrow” his cable login to watch these games. For the remainder of the tournament, you can see where each game in the official NCAA March Madness grid will be streamed and plan ahead (there are plenty of free CBS games available). Plus, the NCAA March Madness app lets you set up alerts for when your favorite teams are about to play so you never miss a clue. Today’s games, for example, are part of the rather new First Four round, where the lowest seedlings play against each other for a chance to hit the normal grid. Your free three hours of streaming are probably the best savings for some of the big games upcoming.
