Add USB Plugs to Outlets for Easier Charging of Gadgets
Most homes only have standard 3-prong wall outlets in their walls. Of course, USB sockets are almost as useful these days. Get the best of both worlds by upgrading your outlets with relatively little hassle.
As How-To Geek explains, upgrading an outlet with USB plugs isn’t as scary as it sounds when you hear the words “electrical” and “DIY” in the same sentence. Provided you do a little research first. You can buy outlets that still have regular 120V plugs, such as the $ 20 Top Greener 15A outlet , with a few extra USB outlets so you don’t waste space. They suggest that you make sure you check for UL Listed outlets before purchasing (for obvious safety and certification reasons) and make sure you are getting the correct amperage for your gadgets. Check the amperage ratings for USB ports, not just the outlet – you don’t want a USB wall outlet to slowly charge your phone when you can get one that will pump out 2A and charge your devices faster.
They also offer advice on how to choose the best outlet type (dual use for regular plugs and USB or just USB), as well as a complete guide to replacing wall outlets. Read the post below for details.
