Tip Yourself As a Virtual Savings Bank
If you are like most people, you probably grew up with the family savings bank. Everyone puts in their extra change or dollars, and you will save a decent amount of extra money over time. The problem is that many of us hardly use cash. Tip Yourself is a free digital savings bank-like app.
The concept is pretty simple. If you want to save a little extra money, just transfer a dollar or two (or whatever amount you want) into your virtual tip bank, which is just your tip account. You can list the reason for your savings if you like, and it’s a fun tool to reward savings. If you want to try the old swearing rule, for example, every time you swear, you simply transfer a dollar to your Tip Yourself account.
Obviously, you need to link your bank account to the app for it to work. But they use the same 256-bit SSL encryption as your bank. You can read their full privacy policy here . Of course, you can transfer your tip back to your savings account at any time. It works in much the same way as Digit, but instead of automating your savings, you set them up yourself.
The app also shows a graph of your progress in the form of a calendar. The days you have saved are marked in green. The idea is simple and you can of course do the same with your bank accounts, but I love the idea of having a separate virtual savings bank. The app is currently only available for iPhone, but they are working on an Android version as well.
