Overcome Jealousy by Asking for Advice
Jealousy and envy can be frustrating feelings , but manage them the right way and you can really use those feelings to your advantage . The next time you feel jealous of someone, give it up and learn something along the way by asking that person’s advice.
Writer Lily Herman at The Muse suggests:
Instead of looking at a successful employee as an adversary, see him or her as a very approachable mentor you can turn to for advice. Asking for pointers accomplishes two goals: you learn a few tips and tricks that push your coworker forward, and you give that person a nice little ego support that is likely to make him or her love you more. So, for example, instead of getting jealous when your coworker is praised again for his impeccable presentation skills, walk up to his desk and ask for some tips on how you can do the same. Suddenly, you turned from enemies into companions.
This is great advice because it serves both practical and emotional purposes. You learn to transform negative feelings into something positive, plus you expand your circle of acquaintances and perhaps even receive some useful career advice.
