Add Cinnamon, Cocoa, or Even Coffee to a Batch of Chili

There are many varieties of chili, but most of them are made up of the same basic ingredients. For an extra flavor that will make your chili peppers stand out, Emma Christensen of Food52 recommends adding some cinnamon, strong coffee, or some dark chocolate:

Choose one of the following: 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1 whole cinnamon stick, a shot of espresso, a small cup of strong coffee, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, or a few squares of good quality dark chocolate. Except for dark chocolate, add any of these along with the spices; add the chocolate along with the tomatoes and let it slowly dissolve into the chili.
