Lack of Rest May Be What Gives You Taste

If you feel like you’re snacking on more than usual, recent research suggests that lack of rest is the culprit.

Research by Erin S. Hanlon, Ph.D. and Esra Tasali, M.D., and published in the journal Sleep , suggests that not getting enough rest can increase your appetite and make you more prone to unnecessary snacks. During the study, researchers found elevated levels of the chemical signaling endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), which is believed to increase appetite, in the blood of participants who did not get enough rest the night before. The same participants who did not get enough rest also reported feeling hungry during the day and having a harder time resisting snacks.

According to this study, the effect of sleep deprivation is similar to how marijuana affects the same chemical signal and triggers snacks. So, if you’re worried about snacking, a more restful sleep can be a cure for snacks. You can read more about the study at the link below.
