Set Your IPhone Calendar Alerts to ‘Time to Leave’ to Avoid Surprises on the Road
Apple has been busy promoting “proactive” features in iOS , but one of the most useful aspects of that is the Calendar app. As Finer Things in Tech reminds us, if you set up an alert for “Time to Leave” in your calendar, your iPhone will keep track of the traffic situation between your current location and your next meeting.
Obviously, this is only useful if there are a couple of parameters in the game. First, your calendar events should include their location. Second, you really need to use the built-in Calendar app to do this. To customize all of this, create a new event, enter a location, select the Alert option, then select Time to Leave. Now, no matter where you are, Calendar will send you a notification when you need to leave for your next event, based on current traffic conditions. Unfortunately it only works with driving directions and does not support public transport or walking. That said, while this live traffic and location feedback was introduced back in iOS 9, it’s a small feature that’s easy to miss, especially if you’re using a third-party calendar. Sure, Google has had it for a while , but it’s nice that people using Apple’s apps can have fun.
