David Allen Explains the Power of Action
You may have heard the saying, “You eat the elephant bit by bit.” Even if the metaphor makes you nauseous, the point is right: to tackle something big, you just have to start. Productivity guru David Allen points out the same thing about how powerful action is.
In his book How To Do It All: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, author and productivity guru David Allen discusses his “ next action technique, ” which basically involves completing one task to enable you to move on to the next task. He’s writing:
We are already strong, but making the decisions and effectively managing the physical actions necessary to move forward seem to harness that power in ways that call for more positive aspects of our nature.
When you start doing something, you begin to believe that you can do something. And it does things.
In other words, action produces momentum, and momentum is powerful. This is a motivating reminder if you get stuck on a problem or come across a project or task that seems overwhelming. For more information follow the link below.
