Reading receipts are one of those weird things that some people love and others hate . While you should probably just turn them off if you don’t like them, iPhone 6s users can leave them on while still viewing messages with a little 3D touchscreen trick.
The Peek feature in iPhone 6s lets you press down hard on the screen to peek into things like links, data detectors, and messages. In the case of messages, this means that you can hard tap on the message to view the conversation without opening the entire conversation. This does not mark the message as read, so you can still get an idea of the message’s content without telling the sender that you saw it.
