Why Never Ask If You Got a Job Right After Your Interview
It’s good to ask a few interview questions and show interest, but there is one question that should always be avoided.
At the end of the interview, your interviewer may ask you if you have any questions for him. Feel free to ask, but Michael Kerr , business speaker and author of The Humor Advantage , suggests that you avoid this particular question at all costs:
“Did I get the job?” Now is simply not the time to ask this question. Yes, it’s good to demonstrate that you are enthusiastic, but there is a line that can make you seem desperate, and asking this question definitely crosses that line … Almost no one is able to make a firm offer until they finish the interview. everyone and followed the feedback, and this question shows a lack of empathy for the difficulties of the interviewers and a lack of respect and understanding for the entire interview process.
You should also avoid questions like “How did I do?” or “Do you have any doubts about me?” or “Can you imagine that I work here?” Questions of this type are perplexing to the interviewer and can be considered rude. Kerr invites you to ask, “What is your decision timeline and when can I expect a response from you?” This indicates your interest, but does not require the slightest attention.
