Swipe to Turn Off Your Windows Touchscreen Computer Using This Shortcut
Do you have a laptop or tablet with a Windows touchscreen and want more control with taps and swipes? Here’s a slide-to-shutdown shortcut.
MakeUseOf uses a shortcut hidden in Windows. To use it, create a shortcut on your desktop:
- Right-click on the desktop and choose New> Shortcut.
- Paste the following into
%windir%\System32\SlideToShutDown.exe
with the shortcut:%windir%\System32\SlideToShutDown.exe
- Name it whatever you want and save the shortcut.
You can drag it to the taskbar for quick access. Tap the shortcut, then swipe down on the screen to turn off the computer.
Is it faster than using the keyboard? Not really. And it only saves you one click if you press Windows, then Power, then shutdown. But there is something nice about shutting down your computer. (I wish there was one to put to sleep.)
