Three Things to Consider When Thinking About Which Skill You Should Learn Next
If you’re at that stage in your career (or even in some hobby) trying to figure out where to spend your time studying next time, it’s really hard to decide which skills are really worth developing. There are three basic principles to keep in mind in the Harvard Business Review.
It’s a little tricky to know if it’s worth spending time developing a new skill, whether it’s attending online lessons, going back to school, or just spending free time practicing. So the Harvard Business Review suggests three things to keep in mind:
- Managing the engine of the economy: We recommend that leaders focus on this element first. How can you grow in ways that help your organization succeed?
- Best of : After you find useful abilities that you could develop, consider if you can truly become perfect at them.
- Passionate : Once you get a feel for where your potential strengths align with useful areas for development, honestly assess how interested you are in those areas.
This is a fairly simple set of considerations to learn and should help you decide if a skill is worth learning or not. In fact, it’s as easy as asking yourself if you would benefit from learning something and if it really keeps your interest, but sometimes we forget to keep the simple things in mind.
