Swap Butter for Bacon Fat for Delicious, Savory Baked Goods
The smoky zesty bacon fat is great for frying and simple frying, but chilled (read: frozen) can be sliced into flour, like butter, to create a greasy bacon pie crust.
When I was growing up, my grandmother always kept a pot of “drops” by the stove, and she used this bacon in everything . It’s a delicious, slightly decadent cooking oil that makes a pretty savory pie shell. It would make a great quiche, but I wouldn’t rule it out entirely in terms of desserts. Bourbon apple pie goes well with smoky, slightly salty dough.
