Create a Simple and Durable Car Mount for Your Smartphone With Sugru and Magnets
We showed you some great smartphone mounts you can buy, but if you prefer DIY you can have a sturdy and durable car phone mount with multiple magnets and our old friend Sugru. Best of all, you can choose where your phone will fit – you don’t have to lose an air vent or block anything else to install it.
This is not our first do-it-yourself smartphone mount. This famous model used a folder clip and rubber bands , but if you want a little more flexibility, all you need is a few neodymium magnets on disks, a coin (magnetic preferably, or maybe a few metal washers for those of us who lives in the US.), and of course, Sugru. Use sugru to place a magnet on your dashboard or console – wherever you want to mount your phone. Then attach the coin (or washer) to the back of your phone or phone case using Sugru. Give them a chance to tune in and you’re done.
Instructables will tell Sagra themselves how to do this and suggest an alternative if you have a standalone GPS device: namely, two magnets on the dashboard and two coins on the bottom of the GPS so that it can stand upright. while you are driving. If you prefer to have your phone mounted on the dashboard, you can change the setting to work that way in landscape orientation, you just have to put washers on the case for it to work, or create little bumpers with Sugru so the magnets can stand straight and flush with the back of the body.
Either way, it’s simple, affordable, and customizable enough for you to find a way to place any phone or device anywhere in your car wherever you want to place it. Check out the full guide at the link below.
