January Is the Best Time to Donate Blood
If you’ve been thinking about donating blood, this month will be a great time to do so. The Red Cross reports that donations in January are always low, so donors are especially needed.
The annual deficit is due to several factors. It is now cold and flu season, which could interfere with donation plans, and freezing weather can keep well-meaning donors at home on the day they are received. Finally, blood stocks are also falling in December due to the holidays, so blood banks are trying to replenish their stocks in January. The shortage is so predictable that January has been named National Blood Donor Month.
