Chrome Can Now Stream Content From the Browser, No Extension Required, With This Flag

Chrome: Since the original Chromecast came out, you can send Chrome tabs to your TV using a handy extension. Google is now experimenting with this feature built in right into Chrome. Here’s how to try it.

The new feature will let you share your Chrome tabs or your entire desktop on any Google Cast-enabled device. The button to start streaming appears on the toolbar of your extensions, just like a regular extension, so little has changed. To enable it, follow these steps:

  1. In Chrome, copy the following address into the address bar: chrome://flags/#enable-media-router
  2. Click on “Enable” in the “Enable Media Router” section.
  3. Restart Chrome.

If you already have the Google Cast extension installed, it might turn it off, but you won’t notice. The new feature will display a pop-up window asking you to select a source and device, as in the image above.
