How Much Do You Need to Earn to Be in the Top 1% in Your State
Not all 1 percent are millionaires. The household income threshold for the top 1% starts at $ 228,000 per year, depending on your state.
This is still a lot, of course, but it’s doable if you and your partner are both in high-income jobs. What’s interesting is the large discrepancy between the 1% threshold in the upper state (in Connecticut you need at least $ 677,608 per year) and the state with the lowest threshold (Arkansas, $ 228,298). This further demonstrates how location matters to how rich or poor you might feel (or how far your dollar might go ).
