If You Work From Home, Create Daily Commutes Anyway
Working from home is great. You can work unattended and you don’t have to worry about unpleasant commuting. However, you should probably still find something to go to.
As the business blog Entrepreneur points out, commuting has some hidden benefits that get lost for people who work from home. When you are not commuting to work, you can lose much-needed physical movement, you hang out with fewer people, and even some daily rituals can fade into the background. If you are missing out on these basic needs, find a place to go every day, even if you don’t work there.
Even something as simple as getting dressed before going outside can cheer you up, as well as the good feeling you get from taking care of yourself. Make a commitment to showering and dressing for work every morning, even when you are at home. This will make a huge difference in how professional you feel and operate in your office, and you will be ready to rush out the door whenever a friend or new client wants to meet you for lunch.
Of course, finding your way to work doesn’t mean you have to work away from home. You can take a daily trip to a cafe, to a gas station, or to another place where you might find yourself on a real trip often. Maybe when you take a break, you can take a walk or ride in a nearby park. If you can find a place to do a little work outside the home, that’s great, but even if you can’t (or don’t want to), just getting out of the house every day can help improve your life.
