Bring Back Touch to Search in Chrome for Android With This Setting

Chrome for Android has a nifty little feature that lets you tap a word to do a Google search for a word without leaving the page you’re on. For some, he’s gone missing, but here’s how to get him back.

As noted by Android Police, this feature was added in Chrome 38, but some users noticed that it is no longer enabled by default. If that’s true for you, here’s how to turn it back on:

  1. Open chrome://flags in Chrome for Android.
  2. Find “Enable Contextual Search”.
  3. Switch the dropdown to Enabled.
  4. Restart Chrome.

Now, when you click on a word or phrase in Chrome, you should see a Google search bar pulling up to the top. It’s unclear why Google turned off this feature, but it’s not the only way to find a piece of text on a page, so it may have been considered redundant by Google. Anyway, it’s nice that we can return it.
