BBB Fraud Tracking Tool Alerts You to Scams in Your Area
The scammers are smart (well, some of them are ). By the time their tactics were revealed, they were already stealing from a handful of people. To make sure you are not one of these people, the Better Business Bureau has developed a new fraud tracking tool.
This tool is available for the US and Canada and alerts you to fraud in your area. You can see the latest scam reports across the country, or you can zoom in on your area and see what’s going on there. You will receive detailed information about each scam, including a description of what happened, when it happened and how much money was lost. You can also search for scams by keyword, date, country, or scam type (identity theft, IRS scam, etc.)
This is crowdsourcing, meaning that the victims of the scam themselves report the scam. However, the BBB reviews each report and submits it to the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance . Of course, you won’t be alerted to all the scams, but I’ve tried this in my field and it reports quite a few of them.
If you think you’ve been tricked or just want to see what’s going on around you, this is a useful interactive tool to try. You can find it at the link below.
