Avoid Unexpected Bowel Movements While Running by Changing Your Pre-Workout Diet
Have you ever gone for a run when nature decided to call? There is some science out there explaining why this is happening, as well as a few things you can do to avoid facing this problem in the future.
Ajua Fisher of Philladelphia Magazine spoke with Dr. Christine Meyer to find out why running seems to cause our bowels to empty. It all boils down to two things: serious runners tend to have higher gastrointestinal motility (everything goes faster), and when you run, your body releases hormones that increase the sensitivity of the intestinal lining (which makes the intestines more irritable.). Meyer believes that changing your diet before exercise can help you avoid any problems. Eat complex carbohydrates (such as whole grains and vegetables) and protein (poultry, seafood, and some dairy products) instead of simple carbohydrates and high- glycemic fatty foods. It’s also a good idea to try to get busy before heading out for a run, so drink some hot liquid to get things off the ground. You can find out more at the link below.
