Steady Square Lets You Weigh Things With Your IPhone 6s (and Play Too)
Apple’s 3D Touch technology may be young, but app developers are already thinking about it outside the box . If you want to use your iPhone 6s as a digital scale, Steady Square is for you. Oh, this game can be played too.
Steady Square, designed by Asaf Avidan Antonir, is a simple app that uses the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus 3D Touch features. However, in the video (shown above) on Antonir’s YouTube channel, he explains the real power of the app. With a little math, the app can be used as a scale to weigh whatever you like. Other developers have tried to create a similar app , but Apple does not currently allow app scaling in the iOS App Store. Antonir’s clever workaround allowed him to host his app, and it’s a convenient way to weigh mail, cooking ingredients, and other trivia. You can download the app for free from the link below, but it requires a 3D Touch-enabled device.
Update: It looks like the video has been filmed, but the app is still available for download. If you want to weigh things up using the app, go to learning mode. When you tap on the screen, you will see a number between 0 and 1000, depending on how hard you press (the harder you press, the higher the number). Start by weighing the spoon or holder and recording the force number. Then add whatever you want to weigh into the spoon. Subtract the spoon’s force number from the new force number, then divide that by 1000 (to get the new ratio) and finally multiply by 385 (the maximum force in grams that can be recorded with 3D Touch). You should now have the mass of your item in grams.
