Save a Bottle of Tainted Wine With a Penny or Silver Spoon
Does the open bottle go bad a little faster than you expected? With this chemical trick, you can get rid of the bad smell and taste and finish off this beautiful red.
This video from YouTube channel Reactions explains an easy way to get rid of the spoilage of an already opened wine. Take a penny (the cleanest looking you can find), rinse it thoroughly with soap and water, and then toss it into a glass of smelly wine. After stirring a little, the penny will neutralize the smelly thiols in your wine. Take the penny away and your drink should smell and taste almost like new. You can of course do the same with a silver spoon if you have one, and it is probably preferable to stick coins in the glass. In general, you are better off storing open wine properly so that it lasts longer, or even try to return it to the store if the spoilage was not your fault, but it will help if you are stranded. …
Update: Keep in mind that this trick may not work with every bottle of tainted wine. Wine can go bad in different ways, which means it sometimes works, but not always. You’ll always be better off if you don’t let your guilt go bad at all. However, if it messes up, this trick is worth trying as a last resort. You can find out more at Gizmodo .
