Open the Claw Lock Using the “tapping” Method, No Picking Is Required
If you’ve lost the key to one of your old padlocks and you can’t cut it, you can open it with just about any weighted object.
In this video, youtuber bosnianbill demonstrates a “tapping” technique to open locks that use a claw to hold the lock closed. Typically you will need to use a wrench (or a set of picks) to turn the chamber and allow the claw to come loose, but a hammer can also help. By applying force to the U-shaped bar of the lock (as if you were trying to open it) and knocking on the jagged side of the lock with something heavy (hammer, screwdriver, stone), the claw can loosen and come loose.
While this video is of the MasterLock brand, YouTube user rallock67 suggests that this can be done with almost any lock with a similar claw design. Be careful when using padlocks to secure your belongings because combination locks also do not provide the protection you expect .
