The Raspberry Pi Zero Is a Bubblegum-Sized $ 5 Computer
The Raspberry Pi has long been one of the best credit card sized computers out there, but a new version is available today, roughly the size of a chewing gum. Plus only $ 5.
The Raspberry Pi Zero is clearly less powerful than the Raspberry Pi 2 , but this is offset by the price. Still, all things considered, it’s a pretty powerful tool. Here’s what’s packed inside the 65 x 30mm board:
- BCM2835 chip (same as Pi 1) but clocked at 1GHz
- 512 MB RAM
- Micro-SD
- Mini HDMI
- Micro-USB for data
- Micro-USB for power
- An empty 40-pin GPIO header (pinout is the same as A + / B + / 2B)
The Raspberry Pi Zero is included for free with this month’s MagPi copy (available at Barnes & Noble and Microcenter ). Otherwise, Adafruit and element14 have a Raspberry Pi Zero in the US, while the Pi Hut , Pimoronia, and Raspberry Pi Swag Store have it in Europe. At launch, the number of orders is limited to two per person.
