Turn Orange Peels Into Cheap Disposable Bird Feeders
Building a bird feeder is a great project for all ages that will transform your yard into a beautiful and eco-friendly refuge . It’s easy too: all you need is an orange, some yarn or twine, and some birdfood.
Cut the orange in half and remove the entrails (or just save the hollowed-out orange halves for your next snack). Punch four small holes opposite each other at the top of the orange peel. Take a 24-inch piece of yarn and thread it through one set of holes, then use another piece to thread it through the second set. You will end up with an “X” in the middle of the orange, as you should see in the image above.
Tie the two pieces in a knot that you will use to hang the feeder. Fill the halves with bird food and place them on a tree or on a stand in your yard. Once the bird food is finished, you can refill it, but when the oranges start to rot, just throw the entire feeder in the compost heap (or in the trash if you’re not composting).
