Chances Are, You Only Need Two or Three Fans in Your Computer.
When you build a computer , your case will likely have a couple of fans that have room for expansion. But do you need it? The people at Linus Tech Tips decided to find out.
There are a lot of different variables here, but they tried to test as average a configuration as possible to see how different fan configurations affect temperatures. They found that after adding a couple of fans to the case, any additional fans did improve temperatures, but only marginally. There are a lot of diminishing returns that – depending on your preference – may not be worth the extra noise these fans can cause.
Of course, this changes significantly if you’re overclocking or living in a particularly hot area, but it’s interesting to see some real-world numbers behind a typical scenario. Watch the video above to see the full test and results.
