Teach Your Kids to Program With Minecraft or Star Wars Guides
Coding is a valuable skill for children of all ages , and it becomes even more fun when they learn by playing with their favorite characters and games. Code.org has two new tutorials based on Minecraft and Star Wars that many kids will love.
In an interactive Minecraft guide, kids choose between Steve and Alex for their character and then drag and drop blocks of code to get their character to mine, explore, and create in a very familiar Minecraft world (complete with this haunting music). There are currently 14 problems available for children ages 6 and up, and it looks like more languages will be added soon.
The Star Wars Tutorial, also in beta, offers both block code and a JavaScript version designed for older children 11 and up (but depending on your child, this is perfectly doable for younger children.) age).
These are incredibly fun tools, part of an Hour of Code that many schools are planning to participate in from December 7-13, Computer Education Week. You can volunteer here . Thanks Vin!
