Explore Your State’s Cell Phone Tracking Laws With This Chart

Whether you have something to hide or not , privacy and the laws regarding your privacy are important. This interactive diagram shows what each state’s current laws say about the ability of law enforcement agencies to access information about cell phones.

Your phone almost always keeps a journal wherever you go . This chart, compiled by the American Civil Liberties Union , gives you a quick look at what data on your cell phone may and may not be available without a warrant. According to the ACLU, your privacy protection status depends entirely on where you are in the country, and the more you know about your state’s laws, the better. For example, Utah requires a warrant for any access to your historical location information or real-time location information via a mobile phone, but states such as Texas, Louisiana, and Georgia do not require a warrant to access your historical location information.
