Buy the Right Size Turkey With This Rule of Thumb

With Thanksgiving approaching, it’s time to panic and make plans for a turkey dinner. But how much turkey do you need per person? Here are some guidelines.

Kitchn offers a rule of thumb of 1 pound per person, which is easy enough to remember (except I’ll probably look for this article next year), which says it should be enough to cover lunch and some leftovers. However, as many of The Kitchn’s comments point out, you may feel safer with 2 pounds per person, depending on how much leftover you want or how many people you feed. Or just get the largest turkey you can put in the refrigerator.
