Why You Should Edit Your Text When You’re Hungover
You may have heard the old “write drunk, edit sober” quote, but in fact, it might be better to edit when you’re still hungover.
Sipping a few beers can be good for your creativity , but you usually pay for it the next morning. While you may feel like you’re dying, Frank Kelly Rich, editor of Modern Drunkard Magazine , explains that a hangover can be very beneficial in the end:
… hangovers are nevertheless perfect for tough and violent decisions, so they’re great for editing. When you are in this mood, it is easy – even pleasant – to bayonet those “favorite” writers who are always trying to infiltrate their work.
It’s not always easy to break off your own work, but a hangover creates the perfect mood for her. So the next time you have a headache and mild nausea, try writing again. It will be as if a pair of fresh eyes were taking notes to you.
