YouTube Music Combines Pandora-Like Discovery With YouTube’s Huge Library

Android / iPhone. Google today launched YouTube Music, an app that uses YouTube’s huge collection of music to create personalized radio stations.

YouTube Music is on par with something like Pandora where discovery is all about. Enter an artist name and YouTube Music will create an endless playlist of tracks taken from YouTube. As you would expect, you can create personalized radio stations that suit our tastes, or explore a variety of music by genre. You tune stations with a slider bar allowing you to choose how ready you are for adventure, along with the standard thumbs up / thumbs down option for tracks. With YouTube’s giant music library, this should provide all sorts of interesting niche material that you wouldn’t otherwise find on other streaming services. Of course, instead of streaming music tracks, you get videos as well.

YouTube Red subscribers get several additional features, including ad-free music, the ability to play music in the background, an offline search function, and an audio-only mode. If you download the app now, you also get a free 14-day trial of YouTube Red to try it out.
