Fix a Jammed Sweater by Pulling the Yarn Back
If your favorite sweater is stuck, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be worn at home, just tighten the yarn back into the sweater to make it look like new. While this method is a little time consuming, it is better to fix an expensive sweater yourself than to go to a tailor or watch it slowly open.
The video above demonstrates the technique in detail, but if you can’t watch, here’s what to do:
- Use a narrow tool like a needle, a hair clip, or even a straightened paper clip.
- Look for pieces around the buttonhole that have been tightened tighter (and therefore have smaller holes), then use the tool to carefully pull the stuck yarn back into the sweater. Basically, you are adjusting the common thread of yarn to slowly pull the stuck loop back into the knitted pattern.
- Continue adjusting until the loop is completely gone and the tightened parts of the sweater line up with the undamaged parts around them. You may need to adjust the yarn both horizontally and vertically (as mentioned around 6:30 in the video ).
While this repair method is for knitting, you can use it on most store-bought or hand-made sweaters. If you don’t have time to get the damaged look flawless again, you can at least pull the stuck loop back into the sweater so it doesn’t snag again and ruin the sweater further.
