Simplify Hand Washing for Your Baby by Reusing the Sippy Cup

Young children can find it difficult to wash their hands without splashing water all over the place. Fortunately, a fun, clutter-free solution is likely already in your kitchen: modify your old drinking cup to control water flow and minimize clutter.

You can see how this works in the video above. If you can’t look, you place the bottom of the drinking cup on the tap so that it narrows the water outlet. This way, not too much will come out, even if your child accidentally turns the mixer to full power. The drinking cup also expands the faucet so your little one washes their hands lower in the sink, which means any splashing water stays in the bowl.

Here’s how to make your own:

  1. Cut a hole in the bottom of the old drinking cup that’s wide enough for the tap.
  2. Make sure the cap is screwed on firmly to prevent water from leaking out, then slide it over the tap.
  3. Check the angle of the water to make sure your child can reach it. If not, adjust the angle at which the drinking cup is attached to the tap.

If your little one has a favorite animal, using a drinking cup with that animal can make hand washing more fun. You can also throw this modified sippy cup in your bag to keep it close at hand for other bathrooms, even when you are out with your baby.
