This Video Explains How to Survive in a Free-Fall Elevator.
The chances of you finding yourself in a free-falling elevator are surprisingly small, but this information can at least help reduce your fear of riding it.
As explained in this video from the Business Insider YouTube channel , there have been very few elevator cable breaks. At the same time, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology decided to figure out the physics of survival in such an event, and it does not jump right before the collision. The trick is to lie flat on the floor in the center of the car so that all your body weight is distributed over it. When the car hits the bottom, the force is evenly distributed, giving you a chance to survive. Again, this will probably never happen, but you can now hop on the elevator with a little less fear.
