Android Marshmallow Has a Basic File Manager, Here’s How to Access It

Android usually works well with file management apps, but Google has never created native apps for this platform. With Android 6.0, everything changes. There is now a (very) simple file manager built right into Android.

To access the file manager, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Click on Storage & USB.
  3. At the bottom of the list, click Explore.

Of course, if you’re used to apps like Astro or ES File Explorer, don’t expect too much. You can use this system to view files on your device and possibly copy files to another location, but that’s about it. It is not intended to compete or replace existing file manager applications. However, if you don’t store one of these on your device, this comes in handy when you need to poke around in the filesystem.
