Stop Undermining Your Ideas Before Proposing Them.
It might be silly, I don’t know, but tell me if you’ve ever started promoting an idea the way I started this proposal. If you have a habit of putting off your ideas before you even offer them, try to break that habit.
As the business blog Entrepreneur points out, when you start your presentation by immediately rebutting your own ideas, the only thing you are looking for is being insecure. You are promoting this idea for a reason. Collect it. Let the idea be appreciated and not sabotage it with its presentation:
These overly passive phrases will instantly undermine your credibility. Even if you follow these phrases with a great idea, they suggest that you lack confidence, which makes the people you speak to lose confidence in you.
Don’t be the worst critic of yourself. If you are not sure what you are saying, neither will anyone else. And, if you really do not know something, say: “I do not have this information now, but I will find out and contact you.”
If you absolutely need to anticipate your idea, try a positive twist. For example: “It may not be our usual style, but I think it can go really well!” Try to be mindful of your reasons for coming up with an idea first. If you have a reason to mention it, you have a reason to be sure.
