Even With Disabled Background App Refresh, Facebook Kills Your IPhone Battery

In iOS 8, Apple allowed apps to run in the background so they can stay up to date even when you don’t open them. This tends to shorten battery life, but luckily, you can easily disable this feature. However, doing this for the Facebook app doesn’t seem to matter.

We know Facebook kills your battery for a while, but it looks like the newest versions of iOS are causing some serious drain. Lots of people claim that Facebook is killing their iPhone’s battery, usually due to background activity, even when background app refresh is disabled. On Medium, Matt Galligan notes that the app is not sleeping properly, leading to a major leak. MacStories has a similar experience , citing “using background audio” as a possible cause, possibly related to autoplaying videos ( which you can turn off ), although this has not been confirmed in any way. Interestingly, in the Pixel Envy Nick Heer notes that the inclusion of a background refresh application actually helps to extend battery life.

TechCruch said in an interview with Facebook that this is not just the imagination of some people:

“We’ve heard reports of some people having battery problems with our iOS app. We are looking into this and hope to fix it soon, ”the spokesperson said.

For now, you have one solution: uninstall the Facebook app and use the mobile site .
