FoxType Politeness Checker Helps You Write More Polite Messages
Rudeness in emails or text messages usually doesn’t get you far, especially when it’s already difficult to grasp the tone of the text. FoxType can analyze your text and suggest rewriting options so you avoid unnecessary rudeness.
FoxType, designed by Alex Jiang and Motoki Wu, is easy to use. Go to the tool , paste your text in the box and click Check Tone or press Enter. The tool will scan the structure of your message as well as the types of words used. He will then go over how polite your tone was, tell you which part of your message was polite or impolite, and offer a list of possible rewrite suggestions. For example, here are three posts I read with the same generic message, written in three different tones:
- Impolite: “Why hasn’t this work been done yet?”
- Neutral: “How is this work progressing?”
- Polite: “Hey, let me know how this work is progressing when you get the opportunity :)” (the message still reads polite without an emoji, but they can help)
These examples may seem a little obvious, but there are many things that can affect how politely a message is read. Things like using negative words (no, I can’t, I won’t), using too many questions (they can be sensitive), and refusing to use any kind of greetings (hello, hello, hey). You probably don’t need to put every message you write through this, but if you know you’re writing a particularly sensitive message, it doesn’t hurt. If you’re concerned about confidential information, substitute certain words and focus on sentence structure. You can check it out at the link below.
