The Easiest Ways to Turn Instant Ramen Into a Filling
Instant Ramen may be simple, light, and similar to college dorm dreams, but with a few simple and easy improvements, you can turn it into a hearty and flavorful meal that you wouldn’t even think of out of packaging.
A few more ingredients and your instant ramen will be more filling and flavorful. The video above from TabiEats shows a few simple updates that don’t require a lot of work, but require a couple of extra items in the pantry:
- Hiashi : This type of ramen is meant to be eaten cold, so after cooking you will need to chill the noodles and broth. What really shines here is the broth. Enhance the flavor by adding instant consum or broth, instant dashi (which you can buy on Amazon or your local Asian grocery store), sesame oil, and half the flavoring bag that goes into your instant ramen.
- Teriyaki beef : This is a hot ramen that focuses on the filling rather than the broth. Boil the onion and thinly sliced beef, then season with soy sauce, sugar, grated ginger and sesame oil. Spoon this delicious filling onto instant ramen (otherwise cooked as usual) and then dig in!
For step-by-step instructions on how to make these two types of improved ramen, see the video above. If you’d like to try more updates beyond these two, check out this list of easy updates and this guide to using ramen in a wide variety of dishes, not just noodle soup.
