This Homemade Wooden Phone Charging Dock Looks Great on Your Desk
Smartphone docks can be quite expensive, and many of them really only work with a few devices or are built so that a manufacturer can sell different models for different phones. This DIY version looks elegant and simple, uses the cables you already have, and can charge any phone you need.
Instructables user Albert built this dock out of some old wood waste, a cable to charge his phone, and some kind of velvet ribbon underneath to keep it from sliding across his desk – that’s all. However, he had decent tools and used a cut-off saw to get the perfect cuts he wanted. However, he mentioned that this was not necessary and that any saw would work – even a hand saw.
Once you’ve got wood, measure your phone’s dimensions and how you want it to fit in your charger. This one was measured to fit its HTC One, but you should pay attention to the thickness of your phone to make sure it fits and fits comfortably in the dock without tipping over. However, we love this design – it’s simple, fits phones of different widths, and while the groove that houses the charging plug is thick enough, it also fits phones of different thicknesses.
Next, you need to cut the wood to your shape, sand and polish it, and drill the places where you want the charging cable to go into the back of the dock and through the top so you can connect your phone. Obviously this is the tricky part, but Albert makes it easy. Follow the link below for a complete step-by-step guide.
