Build a Power Tool Leveling Ramp on Uneven Floors

Many of us set up our workshops in garages or driveways that are built at an angle to allow water to drain off. This poses a problem for our tools, which require flat and level surfaces to work. Here’s how to level the tools when the floor is uneven.

A drill or saw operating on an uneven surface may give inaccurate results. The best way to level the power tool is to build a small leveling ramp on which the bottom can be rolled.

Assuming your power tools are mounted on mobile work tables, position the tool where it will be used and measure the center of the wheel to the wheel perpendicular to the slope. Use a long bubble level, spacers, and a tape measure to determine the height of your ramp, and line up the board accordingly. You can see the process in action in the step-by-step tutorial video above.
