Raspbian, Raspberry Pi OS Updated With UI and Performance Improvements
Raspbian, the de facto operating system on the Raspberry Pi, has received a big update today. The update is based on the most recent version of Debian called “Jessie” and includes a number of minor interface tweaks and performance improvements.
The most obvious change you’ll notice out of the box is that Raspbian now boots directly into the desktop GUI rather than the command line (of course, you can always change this). This desktop has tons of menu customization options and it looks a little more modern than it used to be. Along with the new look, performance is improved, namely with desktop software like LibreOffice and Claws Mail, which performs much better than before, especially if you are using a Raspberry Pi 2 . You will also find several new customization options, including a GUI version of the raspi-config menu that is much easier to use for new users. Check out the full blog post on the Raspberry Pi Foundation page for all the news.
