US Cities Where You Will Spend the Most Time in Traffic
Driving to work really sucks , especially if it takes two hours to drive 10 miles. Here are the cities in which you will spend the most time, just sitting in traffic.
A report from Texas Transportation Institute A&M and INRIX analyzed traffic delays across the country to determine the most congested locations. Note that this is not a baseline travel time; they add extra time to travel due to traffic congestion. This means sitting behind the wheel when the vehicle is stationary or when driving with stops. Here are the five worst areas:
- Washington DC: 82 additional hours per year
- Los Angeles area: 80 additional hours per year
- San Francisco Neighborhood: 78 additional hours per year
- NYC Neighborhood: 74 additional hours per year
- San Jose: 67 additional hours per year
When you live in a big city, you get used to sitting in a traffic jam, but when you look at the data, it can open your eyes. The average Washington, DC passenger spends nearly three and a half full days in traffic, not to mention the extra fuel consumption (which they estimate is 35 gallons a year). If you live in areas with heavy traffic, make sure you always take the best route . And if you are planning to move to one of these places, it would be a good idea to find a place close to where you will be working. You can view the full report at the link below.
