Four Keys to Getting Out of Unnecessary Meetings
Nobody likes to sit out unnecessary meetings. With the right tactics, you can avoid their torturous grip, but there are a few important points to consider before attempting to retreat.
In this video from the Entrepreneur YouTube channel, Esquire’s Ross McCummon lays out the best strategies for not doing anything. Here are four keys to getting out of these annoying encounters:
- Make it clear that companies would be better served if you weren’t there .
- When explaining, speak frankly, honestly, and sincerely. Lies can work, but they’ll come back to bite you.
- Provide more information than the person needs to know.
- Talk to the one who is in charge and get his blessing on the bail.
Remember, you are not asking permission, you are forcing them to “approve” your absence so they cannot use it against you later. There is no guarantee that you can always slip away, but it is worth a try if you know it will be a difficult step.
