Everything You Need to Know About IOS 9 in Three Minutes
iOS 9 is officially available for download – download it now! But while it may seem like a minor leap, there is a lot that is new in Apple’s new OS. Here’s everything you need to know in just three minutes.
Siri becomes active
One of the major innovations in iOS is what Apple calls a more “proactive Siri”. Now iOS will pay attention to your habits and change slightly depending on how you use it. Many of these things are under the hood and depend on how you use your device, but some features include automatic suggestions for people in emails, automatic suggestions for events from your email, traffic-based event notifications, displaying various contacts, and applications in the spotlight depending on the time of day, etc.
Spotlight can search for more things
Spotlight has caught up with its OS X counterpart since iOS 9. Now you can search anything to get instant results, including sports scores, weather forecasts, stock prices, and even searches within your apps. The search screen is also now populated with people you usually chat with or have an appointment with, nearby locations, local news and suggested apps depending on the time of day.
News app
Apple has added another new news app to its home screen. The app works the same way as apps like Flipboard : just download the app, select the news organizations you want to receive news from, and start reading the articles right away. As you would expect, you can search for articles by topic, save articles for later reading, and explore a carefully curated list of articles.
New Notes app
In iOS 9. Notes has been redesigned. Now you can easily turn lists into checklists, add photos to notes, and sketch your thoughts in a notebook.
Map improvements
A big new feature in Maps is public transportation, but it is currently only available in a few cities (Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington DC, London, Toronto, and Berlin). For the rest of us, Maps adds the ability to easily explore nearby places, and routes are finally updated with an alternate route as traffic changes.
Multitask on iPad
The iPad has finally gotten multitasking, which makes it easier to work with . The newer iPad models have a Slide Over view feature that works similarly to the Control Center to quickly check certain apps, and now there is a dedicated parallel mode where you can run two apps at the same time (non-Apple apps will need updates. with both of these functions).
Other minor improvements
Again, iOS 9 isn’t huge improvements, it’s more about hidden things. This includes an estimated additional hour of battery life, as well as a number of minor improvements, including:
- Return to Application : When you follow a link or notification to an application, you can easily return to the original application you were using by clicking the Back button in the upper left corner.
- Search in Settings : You can now search for setting switches in the Settings app.
- Low Power Mode : When you need to save power, you can enable Low Power Mode, which temporarily slows down your processor speed, disables motion effects, stops receiving emails, turns off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and disables background app updates in order to extend the lifespan batteries.
- Shift key changes : When you press the Shift key on your keyboard, the keyboard now changes characters to reflect which typing mode you are in.
- New default apps : In addition to news, you also get Find Friends and Find My iPhone apps.
- Six-digit password: You can now set a six-digit password for added security.
There are many small changes hidden in iOS 9, but these are the ones you’ll notice right from the start.
