Build a Cheap DIY Butcher’s Block Countertop With Plywood and Paint Sticks.

A wooden butcher block countertop will add rustic charm to any kitchen. But even if you install them yourself, the cookers can be expensive. Here’s a cheaper DIY alternative.

At BLDG 25 F.P. Naomi tells us how it’s done. Naomi returned the old cabinet with a piece of plywood and a few paint sticks: yes, those you can get for free at the hardware store. She used them in conjunction with the stain to create a beautiful faux block countertop from the sticks. To make this happen, she simply glued paint sticks over the plywood, filled in the gaps, sanded them down, and then painted them. Plywood is a popular cheap alternative to countertop renovation , but paint sticks make it a little more rustic and interesting.

Naomi uses it on a small side cabinet, but it can work on large surfaces as well: kitchen countertops or even a dining table. It seems like a relatively simple project – all you need is a tree, a saw, some glue, and a few other little things – and most importantly, it’s inexpensive. Check out her guide at the link below.
