Protect Your Garden Beds From Animals With Mesh and Stone Stairs

When you’ve worked hard to cultivate a thriving garden, the last thing you need to do is invade the critters and eat whatever you’ve planted. This simple mesh and stone staircase will keep birds, rabbits and deer away and is easy to make.

Stone stairs are sets of wires that run parallel to each other, with short wires connecting them every foot or so. They are strong, durable and cheap. Cut them with heavy duty wire cutters, bend them in a semicircle shape, and bend them at the ends of your garden bed. If you have a very long garden bed, you may need to add extra ladders in the middle to keep the netting away from your plants. Then place the plastic mesh on the stone stairs. Make sure the net is taut to prevent birds from snagging on it. Then attach the net to the raised bed boards with sturdy brackets. If rabbits are a problem, try using a metal mesh at the bottom over the mesh to prevent them from chewing.

Harvest in the garden by removing the staples from one end of the net, moving the stone ladder to the other end of the garden bed, and looping the net to the stone ladder. You will be able to harvest and then put on your safety net again in just a few minutes.
