When Should Your Child Go to Bed, Based on Age and Waking Time
This is one of the biggest challenges for parents: getting your children to sleep , but it is so important for their brain and body development. Sleep guidelines vary by age, so here is a handy reference table.
The chart was posted by Wilson Elementary School in Kenosha, Wisconsin. There are a few typos in the table (see 8-year-olds who wake up at 6 a.m.) and other oddities, such as some sleep periods do not increase in 15-minute increments for children ages 8 and younger, but you can take into account these are rough guidelines, which are a little more specific than the broader 10-13 or 9-11 hours guidelines from the National Sleep Foundation .
Anyway, you can print the chart and hang it in a prominent place with bedtime as an “official” reminder that it’s time for you to sleep, baby, and you need to go to bed.
