Keep Leafy Greens Fresh for Longer by Storing Them Directly in the Salad Attachment

Lettuce greens can go bad throughout the day if you don’t store them properly . This lettuce spin trick ensures they are washed and stay fresh for a month.

If you have a typical salad spoon, Food52’s Kristen Miglor suggests using it as a versatile salad preparation and storage tool:

Wash and squeeze the lettuce, then place the entire fixture in the refrigerator along with the lid and everything else. You can rinse the herbs right in the spinner by filling the cavity with water, swinging the leaves to shake off the hard sand, and then pulling out the basket to drain the sooty water … There is enough moisture at the bottom of the bowl. pinwheel to keep the leaves moist and prevent them from wilting, but not enough to sit on their surface and cause rot.

Miglor explains that this method allowed her spinach, arugula, and lettuce to avoid wilting within a month. Considering that it almost never takes that long to eat a batch of greens, this is more than enough time for efficient storage. The downsides, of course, are that your salad spinner is unusable and takes up a lot of space in your refrigerator. Just remember to close the lid; this is the most important part.
